Today, we celebrate the 387th birthday of the U.S. National Guard, a vital component of our Nation’s defense. Established on December 13, 1636, the National Guard is comprised of soldiers and airmen who exemplify a unique dual mission – serving both state and Federal needs.
From responding to domestic natural disasters and civil emergencies to deploying for the United States’ defense needs overseas, the National Guard embodies adaptability, courage, and commitment. Our citizen-soldiers balance careers, families, and service, demonstrating an extraordinary level of dedication.
